Children Should Be Dressing In Line With Their God-Given Gender
I can’t believe I feel such a gut wrenching need to address this particular topic, but I do. It has been gnawing at me for a couple of hours now as I’ve been tossing the idea back and forth. Something in me was telling me that I needed to go sit down and take the time to type out my thoughts, then something else kept coming back with the fact that if this post is read by the wrong type of person (a troll) then negative comments would flood my way, then that first something would say, well what if the right kind of person read this post and needed to hear what you had to say and sent a whole bunch of uplifting and encouraging comments your way. Then, about 20 minutes ago, I saw a post on Instagram and it simply gave me the kick in my pants that I needed.
Let me say this now. In My Family, my boys will dress as boys and my girls will dress as girls. Period. When we go out to the park, when my kids go over to their friends houses, if we are in a restaurant etc, my children will be dressed in appropriate gender specific attire.
Now, the Instagram account that lit the spark under my behind will remain unnamed for now. But they are a very (very) popular YouTube family based here in the UK. I follow them on Instagram and watch most of their YouTube content. Although, I’ve been increasingly considering discontinuing my interest in their family. I found their channel maybe 3 years ago or so, before I became pregnant with my first baby. They have lots of children and even more dogs. And for the most part, seem like a fun family.
They have a son who is (I believe) around 6/7 years old now, back when I found their channel, he was about 3/4 years old. Back then and even in their much older videos, I noticed that they would do feminine things with this son like let him paint his finger and toe nails because his older sister got to, or allow him to wear a dress and princess slippers, etc. And I suppose when you’re so young, playing pretend is kind of mandatory in working your imagination and allowing your brain to fully develop. But now, at an older and more mature age where he knows what is for boys and what is for girls, he is still shown on their accounts and videos very often wearing girls clothing, even out in public. Bright leggings, shirts with sparkles, make up, wigs, high heels, etc.
This kind of thing is just not right. I don’t know if they are doing this for the followers, for the views, or because they genuinely see nothing wrong with it. I’m pretty sure they even send their kids to Catholic school for goodness sake.
Anyways, I do not want this post to be about this family and what they do or don’t do. This is just what kind of the straw that broke the camels back so to speak. When I saw the adult father dancing with this son, and then jumping into some kind of pink fluffy drag-wear attire, it just made me so sad for them. And this video, like all their other posts, had hundreds of comments saying “Congratulations.” and “Well done.” and “It’s great to see you let him dress like a girl.” Dress. Like. A. Girl.—- WOW.
This post is not to bash anyone, it’s just my thoughts along with some very specific Biblical truths.
Like this very specific Biblical truth,
A woman must not put on men’s clothing, and a man must not wear women’s clothing. Anyone who does this is detestable in the sight of the Lord your God.
Now, I know someone out there will be nit picky and say “Well, that says men and women, not boys and girls. Not children.”
And I say to you, my friend, what do boys and girls grow up to be? Where do men and women start? If you raise a boy as if it is okay to openly dress like a girl, to be interested in feminine, womanly things, then where do you think he will end up when he’s older?
We need to raise our boys to be strong, humble, kind, hard and smart workers. It is up to us as leaders, as teachers, as parents to set boundaries and to lead by example. This means in our actions, in our language, even in our dress.
I’m not saying that women must wear dresses all the time and men must wear pants, I believe women can wear nice jeans, leggings, or khakis with a soft feminine top that modestly covers her and she will exude beauty. I do NOT believe that men (or boys) should ever wear dresses or skirts, heels, wigs, makeup, or anything the like just as I do not believe that women should specifically dress to resemble a male.
It is a sad, devil run world we are living in today. A world that is more and more accepting the ways of the evil and trying to make them the norm. I am very nervous for my littles growing up in the thick of this mess. I can only pray on this verse every single day,
Lead children in the way they should go, and when they are older they will not depart from it.
We are to Lead our Children in the way they should go. How you teach your child now, MATTERS.
I’m not sure if this post will resonate with anyone out there, I’m not even 100% sure that it is a fully complete thought. I just know that I had to sit here right now. I had to open up my computer and I simply had to allow these words to flow.
Teach your boys to be men and teach your girls to be women. Especially in their outward appearances. Deuteronomy 22:5 needs no further explanation. Men, dress like men! Women, dress like women! Anyone who cross-dresses is DETESTABLE in the sight of God!
P.S.- Even if my husband and I want to be “cute” and wear matchy-matchy shirts one day. I’ll have my earrings in, a necklace, my hair done nicely, colorfully painted nails, SOMETHING to show that I am a woman.
Something to think on.
