Here we are February 12th 2021! Can you believe it?? I sure can’t. I am currently about 17-18 weeks pregnant with TWINS! I still haven’t even fully comprehended that to be honest. My daughter is going to be ONE on the 18th, and (God willing) I’ll be seeing my 30th birthday on Feb. 25th! We have the our 20 week pregnancy appointment this month too!
Wowza we have a busy month ahead, especially with Valentines Day right around the corner. Are y’all doing anything semi special this year? I know with the COVID mess still going on, it might be hard to get out. Especially here in the UK where it seems almost impossible unless a trip to the grocery store counts. Ha!
As far as the little ones go, Baby Girl is almost One as I stated earlier. She is toddling around, officially a member of the walking community. She’s not 100% got the balance thing down, but she’d sure rather be on her feet instead of crawling these days. She gradually started letting go of the couch or the chair and taking a few steps here and there around 11 months old and now she just goes for it. Bless her heart. It is seriously so amazing watching her learn new things and just feel so proud of herself for doing it on her own. Yesterday she was able to show me where her head is, where her ear is and she can give one heck of a high five now. She has seriously come so far in the past year, and especially in the past 9 months since her heart surgery. She is my little warrior, a little survivor and now she is just getting into everything and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Big Boy is 2 years and almost 4 months old. He is learning his numbers and ABCs. He can count from memory 1-10. We’re working on actually counting things (like balloons or squares) instead of just counting from memory and recognizing the numbers themselves. He pretty well knows his ABCs from memory but again, recognition is proving to be a little more difficult. It’s a daily thing though, I use phonics flash cards and books, dry erase books, posters, etc. We’ve got a full blown pre-school/homeschool system going and I am absolutely loving it. Just praying for patience many, many, many times a day! He is starting to grow out of his 2-3 year old pants, which is no surprise. He was in 12 month old clothing at 6-8 months old. He has always been a big boy. My little big boy :).
Now, as far as the Twin Pregnancy goes, boy this has been a roller coaster.
For a little back story – At around 7 weeks pregnant, I had a very bad bleed and I thought for sure I had lost the baby. So I went to the ER we were closet to at the time, about 45 minutes from our home, and I was certain I was going in to confirm my first ever miscarriage. Well, after about 4 hours of waiting around, I finally saw a doctor who did an ultrasound and (you guessed it) she found TWO heartbeats. I was absolutely floored. A few days later I had a scheduled appointment with the hospitals early pregnancy center and was told that it was possibly a triplet pregnancy and I had miscarried one of the babies since they did see an empty sac on the scan, however about a week after that, there was no sac to be seen and I was told it was probably just a hemorrhage. So, I bled continuously for about a month.
Now, two days ago I had a successful 17 week and 2/3 day reassurance scan. Both babies have beautifully beating hearts, two arms and legs each, beautiful spines, and they are fraternal meaning they each have their own placentas and could possibly be two different genders. We don’t know the genders yet. I am so very happy and blessed to have two (seemingly) healthy babies. I never thought I would end up pregnant with twins, but God knows what he is doing. I am going to embrace the mess out of being a twin mom and pray that these two babies stay inside as long as possible.
For those who are curious, I have had two vaginal deliveries in the past 3 years and I plan to have these two the same way, God willing. If Baby A doesn’t turn from the way he/she is currently laying then a C-section might be my only option, so we will just have to see.
As far as the symptoms go, I think the two most intense symptoms that I have had since very early in this pregnancy have been insanely high emotions and getting very light headed, very easily. Even just standing up from a chair or sitting up from laying down. It’s been tough. With two littles, I’m constantly bending over, picking things up, picking up my baby girl, getting up and down if I dare try to sit, etc. There have also been little symptoms here and there like migraines, extreme fatigue, sore legs, hips and back. Just a little bit of everything. Nausea was a hard one to deal with from the beginning up until around week 15. I didn’t get sick very many times, but absolutely nothing sounded good to eat. I mean nothing at all sounded good. I honestly didn’t eat very much and what I could eat sounded good one day and icky the next. It was difficult. I am happy to report that week 15 or so, I’ve actually started to look forward to eating some foods again. Like last night, I waited all day to have our family spaghetti night with buttered garlic bread. I mean y’all, I thought about that meal all day long and was so happy when 4:45pm rolled around and I started prepping to cook it up.
Sometimes it’s the little things lol.
Anyways, there really isn’t too much going on besides that. We are trying to find a larger vehicle to hold all of us when the time comes. We’ve been looking for something with 7 or 8 seats and with great trunk/boot space, but it seems almost non-existent here in the UK. I am desperately longing for a 2020 Ford Expedition or a Honda Odyssey or a Hyundai Palisade but these models seem to have not made it here to the UK. Sliding doors on both sides would be amazing, a way to get to the back row without having to fold a seat since we will be filled with car seats is a big wish, and my days we will have 4 under 3. We NEED space for strollers and all the attachments they come with!
Whew, okay. I digress.
It was a little all over the place today but that’s just where my head is at these days. I suppose that’s why these posts are called Homemaker Ramblings.
Let me know in the comments, do you have any recommendations for twins? During pregnancy, preparing for birth, or life with twin newborns and two older children who are still under 3 years old…
Till next time,
Love y’all,
Victoria
